Who may use it

Anyone who wants to learn or teach the Noble Qur'an, at any level, Arabic-speaking or not. A child's account is opened and supervised by a parent or guardian.

• The men's and women's sections are permanently separate. You join the section that matches the gender on your account, and you may not attempt to reach the other.
• Your gender is recorded once and can afterwards only be corrected by the administration.

Your account

Keep it to yourself, keep its details accurate, and tell us if someone else gets into it. One person, one account. What is done through your account is treated as done by you.

How to behave in a session

A recitation session is an act of worship shared between two people. The manners of it are the terms of it.

• Recite and listen. A session is for the Qur'an and its tajwīd, not for anything else.
• Do not record, photograph, or pass on any part of a session. What is said in it belongs to the two of you.
• Correct gently. Your companion is a peer sitting with you, not a service you are being given.
• Do not use the app to advertise, to solicit, to raise money, or to campaign for anything.
• Do not misrepresent what you have memorised in order to be certified for it.

The pool is not a marketplace

Companions are not metered and companions are not rated. There are no paid sessions, no priority, and no ranking of one member's worth against another's. Attempting to turn the pool into any of those is a misuse of it.

Certification and ijāzah

A certificate says that a teacher heard you and a supervisor approved it. It is granted at the academy's discretion under the accreditation of the Maknoon Society, and it may be withheld or withdrawn if it turns out to have been given on an inaccurate basis. An ijāzah follows the completion of the whole Qur'an and a meeting with a supervisor.

Free, and given voluntarily

There is no fee, and there is nothing to buy. Everyone teaching and supervising here is a volunteer, which means availability is a gift rather than a guarantee: a companion may not be free when you are, and a programme may change or close. We provide the service as it is, and we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or fault-free.

Content

The text of the Noble Qur'an is not ours and is never altered. The app's own text, design, and the muṣḥaf typefaces it uses belong to their owners and are licensed for use inside the app. Anything you write or record stays yours; you give us only what is needed to show it to the people it is meant for.

Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that puts other members at risk, or that attempts to cross between the two sections. Where it is fair to do so, we will say why first.

Liability

The service is offered as a charitable, volunteer effort. To the fullest extent the law allows, the academy is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from its use. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the Maknoon Society under whose licence the academy operates is established.

Changes

If we change these terms we will change the date at the top, and say so in the app where the change is significant. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.
